Positions: Former
Positions: Education: Meadow grew up in Mt. Shasta, California which fostered her love of the outdoors. Meadow served as a Rotary Ambassador to Japan in 1995-1996. Starting at Cal as a Japanese major, Meadow combined her interest in language and linguistics with her passion for the environment with her Political Ecology major. Political Ecology examines the complex relationships between social, political, economic and ecological problems. Meadow visited Curitiba, Brazil, Copenhagen, Denmark and Old Snowmass, Colorado researching models of sustainable development and design before returning to work in Mount Shasta. For the Upper Sacramento River Exchange she has designed and taught integrated art and ecology lessons for kindergarten through 12th graders, helping teachers and students make the connection between energy, consumption and ecology. For the River Exchange she worked on a California Standards Based Science and Stewardship Educators Guide to the Klamath-Siskiyou Region entitled “The Outstanding Klamath-Siskiyou: Exploring Science in Our Backyard” designed to educate students about the uniqueness and value of their local surrounding. A river lover and whitewater raft guide, Meadow is using the curriculum with river companies to create ‘stewardship visitor’ education materials and trainings. Meadow's 16 months as Executive Director of Shasta Energy Group served as practicum for her master's degree. She will return to New York in the fall 2004 to complete her M.A. in Environmental Conservation Education in the School of Education at New York University. Meadow is profiled on the Bioneers Youth Program site. |
